Responsibilities:
I manage several PR accounts at Slack Barshinger. My duties include setting the strategic vision for each account and constantly adjusting that vision to ensure our efforts are aligned with the client’s goals. I oversee budgets and am responsible for all aspects of our public relations efforts including media relations, messaging, thought leadership, trade show outreach, speaking engagements and new business development.
What is a typical day like?
No two days are the same and that’s why I love my job. A typical day may include reviewing the news for issues and trends related to my clients, hitting the phones to discuss potential media opportunities with targeted reporters, writing pitches, press releases, case studies and messaging and discussing strategy with clients.
What is the most interesting part of your job?
The new relationships I develop everyday. I deal with all sorts of media influencers and they all have different needs so it keeps me on my toes. It’s a great feeling when the media starts calling you for information—that’s when I know I have done my job. Also, I am fascinated by my colleagues at Slack Barshinger. There is never a shortage of creative, unique ideas here.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
The media doesn’t quit—ever. They are relentless and if you don’t provide them with timely and personalized information you risk burning a bridge or missing a potential opportunity. You’ve got to work fast and smart in PR and be able to justify every decision you make to your client in a minute’s notice.
