New Book by PRSA Chicago Member and PR Veteran Bob Kornecki

How to Thrive in the Public Relations Business isn’t your typical text.

It doesn’t provide instructional content on the tools and techniques of the trade. There are numerous exceptional text books on the market that already do that.

Rather, the book provides one person’s views on the individual qualities and character traits that will help people build a solid reputation for themselves and make the most of their advancement opportunities in the field.

It is dedicated to mentors past and present, with a special acknowledgement to the person who first exposed Bob to the value and power of public relations – Dr. Albert Walker, Emeritus Professor of Public Relations at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

Bob Kornecki has learned many valuable life lessons over the course of his successful 35-year career in the public relations business with Burson-Marsteller and Edelman, two of the world’s most prominent firms. One lesson that is especially gratifying is the immense intrinsic value of placing the needs of others ahead of one’s own self-centered interests.

Since so many colleagues, clients and business associates took an active interest in his career development from the moment he joined Burson-Marsteller as a summer intern in 1972, Bob always felt compelled to “return the favor” by taking a sincere interest in helping others succeed. He is especially proud of his association with a great many professionals who have gone on to prominent positions both within and outside the public relations profession.

The publication of his “35 tips” reflects the most important values and virtues that he learned not only through the school of hard knocks, but by observing the behaviors of others and applying his own personal sensibilities and code of conduct. The book is offered in the hope that the series of practical tips will in some way serve as guideposts for others seeking to make their mark in the industry.

Bob currently is an adjunct lecturer in public relations at Loyola University Chicago and serves on a number of boards, including the Parish Pastoral Council at Holy Name Cathedral in Chicago, the NIU Executive Club, Metropolitan Division of The Salvation Army and Metropolitan Planning Council.

Copies will be available for purchase at a special student and educator rate at the PRSSA Career Development Exhibition on Monday, October 22, from 2:30-5 p.m. at Loews Philadelphia Hotel.

Information on how to purchase single copies can be obtained online at www.howtothriveinpr.com.
